Why would you want to be a reviewer?
There are a number of reasons you might want to be an Amazon Reviewer. They may include the following, which are in no particular order:
- You like trying out new things
- You want to save money on things you already buy and use
- You want to help people make educated decisions about their purchases
- You want to help new businesses get started
- You want to start and maintain a review blog
- You want to justify your Amazon Prime membership
- You want to be able to give gifts to others more often, but normally couldn't afford to
- Mystery shopping is too stressful even though you can get free/cheap stuff and get paid
- Extreme couponing is stressful and you're embarrassed to be seen doing it
- Seems cool...? (it is!!)
- Free stuff! (sometimes free, sometimes discounted)
- Five thousand other reasons I didn't think of at this moment..
Why would someone not want to be a reviewer?
- They don't like free/cheap stuff (ha!)
- They don't like Amazon (ha!)
- They don't have the patience or memory to tests things out and write reviews
- Don't want to be bothered going through emails of potential review opportunities
- Don't want to be bothered verifying reviews on different review websites
- Already have way too much stuff? (don't we all!)
- They don't have Amazon Prime and don't want to pay shipping (just get Prime.. worth it... duh) ;-)

Why would people give stuff away for free or super cheap?
They're not. They are sending you a sample of their product and it is costing you time and energy to write an honest review about it after you have tested it. Still.. Why would they want to do this? Here are some possible reasons:
- They are a new company or new product on Amazon. Most Amazon Customers sort search results by star rating. If the company has no stars (no reviews) or poor reviews, many people will never even see their listing.
- A company that had poor reviews on a product has improved it and hopes the reviewers will see the improved product, (whereas everyday consumers may not take the risk to purchase) it will boost their average star rating, visibility, and sales.
- Companies want feedback
- Companies/sellers want consistent detailed reviews that would be helpful to their customers, not just "I really liked this _____" "It is great!" While that is great to hear, it doesn't help other customers as much as a review that provides specific reasons for liking a product or thinking it is great.
- Getting product into people's hands, so to speak, gives an opportunity for further product visibility via word of mouth to family, friends, coworkers, classmates, strangers at the grocery store... and on social media platforms and blogs.
