Doesn't Everyone?!
Culinary Blow Torches are a lot of fun, but they do require you to exercise caution and use common sense. They should probably do a background check before they let people buy these....
I had a blow torch already so it was nice to be able to compare the two. This one by Köchin is much more large and "heavy duty".
Just to state the obvious:
PLEASE Read the instructions thoroughly and identify all the parts of the torch.
Here are some basic instructions:
1. Turn the knob counterclockwise until you hear the butane coming out.
2. Flip the button on the side from off to on.
3. Push the trigger until the flame comes out.
4. Adjust the size of the flame with the knob at the back.
Tidbit: If you turn it down too far, the flame will go out. Turn it up a bit a hit the trigger again.
5. When you're done, be sure to turn the knob clockwise and flip the switch back to off to ensure it will not be accidentally ignited.
To fill, turn it upside-down, and insert the tube on your butane can into the spot on the bottom of the torch. If butane is running out, it is full. Clean everything carefully. Remember, this is super flammable, so you want to make sure there are no drops where they shouldn't be because that's how a bad fire could accidentally start! Let the butane stabilize for 5 minutes after filling before you use it.
This torch offers a much larger flame than the other one I have. It would be great for browning and caramelizing larger items. The marshmallows I toasted very quickly caught flame. I love when marshmallows get a burned crust on the outside and are ooey gooey inside. When you aren' trying to video, obviously you can control it more. However if you are trying to do very fine detail with your torch, this may possible be too much torch for you. But I think most of the time people are using it for something larger, creme brûlée, meats, etc so having more power would be very much more convenient and efficient.
This is a really great torch with a lifetime guarantee. Great gift for the chef or pyromaniac in your family.... Wait, maybe just the chef. ;-)
And remember: You really can't go wrong when you can have s'mores any time of year, in the comfort of your own home. When you can toast marshmallows in your hot chocolate, sweet potatoes, etc. Mmmm...!
Also, if you use a culinary torch like this when you have company, Guaranteed that your guests will be very impressed. (from experience)
It also helps when you invite people over who are easily impressed. It's great for your self esteem. hehe. Just don't tell them that's why you invited them :-x
I purchased this torch at a discount to test out and review. Hopefully the demonstration and suggestions have been beneficial.
Have you used a culinary torch? What's your favorite way to use it? Do you have any tips and suggestions? I'd love to hear them! Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section! :o)
Stay tuned to find out what is in the next box at my door! Have a lovely day!
